Our popular half-day tour leads from the heart of the city of light Jena first in the direction of Porstendorf – from the urban flair of the big city to idyllic river landscapes.
After a short safety briefing and route information, you are ready to go!
In the Saale Nature Park, shimmering turquoise kingfishers and various species of herons populate the water walkers’ itinerary. Nutrias and cormorants can also be seen among the densely overgrown banks.
At Rabeninsel near Porstendorf, the Saale divides and invites you to walk along the old Saalearm
.
to explore mangrove-like conditions on the old Saalearm or to take the shorter Saalearm for a midday rest at Porstendorfer See.
On leaving Rabeninsel behind, the Dornburg castles soon rise charmingly above the Saale valley on the left. With the Renaissance castle, the Rococo castle and the Old Castle, the vine-covered shell limestone rocks present stately architectural styles from three epochs. Goethe already spent some time here.
The picturesque landscape impression is rounded off by the lively character of the Saale, which carries your guests here through gentle rapids and past small islands to the tour’s destination in Dorndorf-Steudnitz.
